If I find that it does any of the things Id like it to I'll report back. Any way thanks to everyone who attempted to help out. I thought maybe this extra coverage over the barrel under the hand guard would act much like a heat shield and keep the rail a little cooler where I hold it. The shroud simply covers the barrel from the threads almost to the gas block. Also I have no intention of cutting down the barrel. In effect, it acts like the simplest form of silencer, and the only. It lets the pellet escape but forces the air to use up much of its energy before it leaves the shroud, thus reducing the report. Seems like shooting that way would defeat the entire purpose of the FF rail. The simplest type of shroud is a jacket that encloses the barrel and contains the violent release of compressed air from the muzzle. As far as burning the sand bags I always start off shooting with the hand guard on the bag but occasionally it works its way off the bag and the barrel falls onto it.

Im in no way looking to have gasses exit under the hand guard. No I have a 16" barrel and a 12" hand guard. You won't notice much difference in heat by cutting down the barrel.Įar protection also cuts down on noise heard by the shooter. If you don't want sandbags to burn up, don't put your barrel on them. I'm not sure if I understand your OP correctly, but it seems as if you want the barrel and muzzle device under the handguard? I could be wrong. Also, be sure you get a muzzle device that expels gas from the barrel beyond the handguard. I doubt a barrel shroud makes any difference in sound both to the shooter, anyone behind or side of the shooter, etc. I'm just curious as to how loud it will seem to me compared to other options. It will also knock a little over 1/2 inch of the over all length of my rifle which is always good. Second reason is I'm hoping having the barrel covered under the handguard will cut down on some of the heat and the front of the rail where I hold it. I've burned through quit a few sandbags because of a hot barrel. For WWII Original MP40 16mm X 1.5 Pitch RT - MFI Barrel Shroud / Fake Silencer / Faux Suppressor & Barrel Extension SET Fits WWII MP40 or MP38 Parts Set for legal 16' Barrel. The first is that the way my accessories are set up the handguard tends to work its way off the sand bag when shooting from the bench. I know shrouds are frowned upon around here but I do have some actual reasons for getting one. Are barrel shrouds any quieter to the shooter than say a mil flash suppressor? I have a comp on right now and I'm almost positive it should be queiter than that.
